No spike in death rates

We're being told "the UK has been hit hard" with the word 'unprecedented' being thrown around repeatedly in multiple articles.

So why is it that the death toll in the 1990's was actually higher than 2021, despite there being around 11 million LESS people?

In 1990 the population of the UK was recorded at 57,134,377.

As of 8th March 2021, the population is recorded at 68,129,139.

Death toll for 1990 - 1,462.60

Death toll for 2020 - 1,043.50

Basic math reveals a lot more than media fear campaigns.
